Are you tired of

  • The big smoke?
  • Waiting to be offroad ready?
  • Fishing – not catching?
  • Burning camp oven meals?
  • Kitchen duties and house cleaning?
  • Spending money on accessories you only use once?

If you can relate to any one of the above, I am here to help you get on the right track.

This is the first comprehensive online member and training program of its kind, all in one place!

Now, if you haven’t heard of me yet, you’re probably thinking why the heck should you listen to me, right?

Well, I am not gonna give you a sales spiel, I am just an ordinary Aussie ocker raised in the scrub of SW Queensland. I’ve been running in and out of fires my whole life and practice what I preach as a way of life, when travelling or at home. As a matter of fact, I purposely don’t even have a kitchen with a stove in my home and live completely off the grid.

I learned to cook up the paddock whilst out working with the ol’ man, and had a hard time cleaning if I burnt the camp oven meal. So I learned quick smart about different timbers, coals and controlling the heat. I don’t like cleaning! And I am one of the laziest persons you wish to meet – so if there is an easy way of doing things, I’ll work it out.

Of course, that gives me more time to do the things I like to do….fishing, drinking beer, swapping yarns around the camp fire….you’re with me? People ask me all the time if I like cooking. My answer is “I like eating.” And my Dad used to say, “if you throw everything you like the taste of in the pot, it’s bound to taste good.” Hence I have perfected the art of keeping it simple, using fresh produce and things you’re likely to have in your tuckerbox for my camp oven meals.

And if you’re still learning to perfect your camp oven skills, just remember that “hungry dogs eat dirty pudding.” Being the baby of 10 in the family, we sometimes did it so tough that we had to eat the dates off the calendar…

Enough of the BS, you’re here to learn, aren’t you? And have heaps of fun on the way! I am not gonna bore you senseless and will even throw in some bush poetry if you’re up for it.

Anyway, much to my own surprise, I have published two books, released an educational DVD and am often hearing comments like, “You are welcome around my camp fire anytime,” or “I wish I could follow you around the scrub.” Well, now you virtually can!

I feel privileged to get invited to judge at large camp oven cooking competitions these days, have a regular radio section on River 94.9FM and guest appearances on Merv’s Outdoor Adventures.

Having an affinity with the great outdoors, I have been involved with the Scouting Movement, Ranger Guiding, Unit Support in Environmental Education and Outdoor Recreation within Education Queensland. Holding accreditations in archery, canoeing, high ropes, abseiling, vertical rescue, heritage & interpretive tourism, and an interest in Botany, I have been demonstrating camp oven and bush cooking skills professionally since 2010, travelling the country and abroad for a minimum of six months of the year.

Apart from bush cooking, I am educating school groups and fellow adventurers in outdoor recreation and environmental practices.

Hence I have developed a fair dinkum down under program to share my life experiences, adventures, bush cooking and outdoor skills, so you can save time and not have to learn from the same mistakes I have made over the years, when in the great outdoors.

I will guide you step by step, no pushing, no stress, no academic stuff, no bling, no fuss. Just simple methods to get you eating like the royals whilst in the scrub, on the road or your backyard. Easy to cook and even easier to clean! To complement the cooking, I will share some handy bush skills to assist in your travel, camping and outdoor adventures.

Ranger Nick is a very entertaining presenter and he knows exactly what he’s doing.
It’s a fun way of learning how to select firewood; how to use charcoal briquettes; how to avoid too much washing up; what recipes work best in the bush; how to position coals or heat beads under and on top of a camp oven; using a trivet and using your senses – common sense included!
Ranger Nick also covers fire safety topics, including containing your campfire and cooking during fire bans.
